EXECUTIVE POSITIONS

Co-Presidents
The Co-Presidents guide the overall vision and direction of WIE, ensuring alignment with the society’s mission to foster an inclusive and supportive environment in engineering. They oversee the executive team, provide guidance for events and initiatives, and act as the primary representatives for the society in faculty and external meetings. An example of their work is supporting the annual Alumni Brunch initiative, which emphasizes community-building and networking with past students.
Vice President of Communications
The VP Communications ensures consistent communication with the WIE community through newsletters, social media updates, and event announcements. They manage the Linked-In and Discord platforms exclusively, and are resoponsible for website design and updates. They play a key role in promoting events sharing updates and encouraging participation.
Co-Vice President of Marketing & Media
Responsible for managing WIE’s visual identity and online presence, the VP Marketing & Media creates promotional materials for events and maintains the society’s branding. They lead projects like designing and launching merchandise, combining creativity with strategic promotion. All the wonderful graphics on our merchandise, website, and socials are thanks to the talents on our M&M team!
Co-Vice President of Mentorship
The VP Mentorship runs the WIE mentorship program, matching upper-year mentors with lower-year mentees and facilitating relationship-building through events. The Mentorship Kick-Off Event is a highlight, providing a welcoming space for mentor-mentee pairs to meet and engage in icebreakers and collaborative activities.
Co-Vice President of Social Events
The VP Social creates opportunities for members to connect and foster a sense of belonging through engaging events. They plan activities like the Karaoke Nights, which bring students together in a fun, relaxed atmosphere to showcase their vocal talents and enjoy each other's company.
Co-Vice President of Professional Development
This role focuses on enhancing members’ professional growth by organizing workshops, networking sessions, and speaker panels. An example could be a industry-partnered Networking Night, where students connect with industry professionals to learn about co-op opportunities and career pathways in tech.
Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI) Resource Co-ordinators
This role involves championing equity, diversity, and inclusion through workshops and awareness campaigns. A prime example is organizing plant pot painting nights in collaboration with other societies, combining creativity with dialogue on inclusivity in engineering.
Vice President of Internal Operations
The VP Internal ensures smooth coordination within the society by managing logistical needs and acting as a liaison with campus resources. This role includes tasks like organizing general meetings, philanthropic initiatives, and collaborations with other on-campus clubs and teams. An example of their work is managing logistics for the WIE General Meeting, ensuring a well-organized and engaging space for discussions and updates.
Sponsorship Coordinator
The Sponsorship Coordinator builds and maintains relationships with corporate sponsors to secure funding and partnerships. They collaborate on events where students develop professional skills while benefiting from industry support.
IDEA Conference Chair
These chairs help plan the annual IDEA Conference, an event that brings together students, professionals, and thought leaders to discuss topics like innovation, diversity, and leadership in STEM fields. The conference is a flagship event for WIE, highlighting its commitment to professional and cultural growth. There is a high level of collaboration and coordination involved with the other identity-based engineering societies on campus, as well as the organization of industry sponsors.
Co-Vice President of Outreach
The VP Outreach promotes engineering to younger students and the community through outreach programs. They lead initiatives like the Go Eng Girl event, where middle and high school students participate in hands-on engineering activities to spark interest in STEM careers.
Co-Vice President of Finance
The VP Finance manages the society's budget, tracks expenses, and handles reimbursements to ensure financial accountability. This role involves coordinating funding from the McMaster Engineering Society (MES) and other sponsors to support events. For instance, the VP Finance oversees budgeting for the popular Iron Ring Nails Event, ensuring its affordability for graduating students celebrating this milestone.
First-Year Representative
The First-Year Representative ensures the perspectives and needs of first-year students are represented in WIE activities. They are mainly responsible for organizing the Stream Selection event in the winter semester, and should aim to contribute to whichever WIE pillar interests them throughout the year.
