Welcome to McMaster Women in Engineering Society's Website!

We are a group of undergraduate Engineering, B.Tech, iBioMed, and Computer Science students focused on creating a community where woman-identifying students feel empowered and supported throughout their education. We host many events throughout the year ranging from soldering workshops, to industry nights, to spa nights. Our events are open to all engineering students and we would love to see you there!

ABOUT US

The McMaster Women in Engineering Society (McMaster WIE) was established in 2007. Since then, our society has continued to grow student membership and the outreach of our events. Our aim is to create an environment within McMaster’s Faculty of Engineering where women-identifying students can feel supported in their education. We aspire to create a community that empowers students and inspires growth.

McMaster WIE is founded on five main tenets: mentorship, social events, professional development, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and outreach.

WIE runs a mentorship program to encourage networking and collaboration with peers. We use highschool and community events as outreach opportunities to introduce young students to STEM. WIE also provides networking opportunities with industry professionals and runs events throughout the year to continually foster a sense of community. We are continuously working to improve and support diversity amongst engineering students.

All women-identifying students in the Faculty of Engineering are automatically a member of the society!

Welcome back mentors & mentees! Ready to kickoff the new semester with some fun? Join us for our Mentorship Paint Night to catch up with your mentor(s)/mentee(s) and hangout with other wonderful students! This event is on Thursday January 16th from 6:30pm-8:00pm in Hatch 204 A/B. The McMaster Women in Engineering Society would like to share some supports and resources around campus. We understand that gender-based violence is a sensitive and upsetting topic for many individuals and acknowledge the importance of having access to resources.

Today, December 6th, is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. The McMaster Women in Engineering Society recognizes this day of mourning for the 14 women who were victims of this violent, femicide act. We also acknowledge their families and all victims and survivors of gender-based violence. We ask you to join us in pausing and reflecting on this tragedy today.

In light of tomorrow being the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, McMaster Women in Engineering Society would like to recognize the missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada, and the disproportionately staggering rates of violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people.

We encourage you to take time to remember these women and girls and educate yourself on this issue today.

Last week, we welcomed Alumni back to campus for the first ever McMaster WIE Alumni Brunch! It was an amazing morning full of delicious food, great conversation, and new connections! Thank you to all students, alumni, and faculty who attended. Huge thanks to both Dr. Heather Sheardown, Dean of Engineering, and our keynote speaker, Jessica Radko, Mechanical & Mgmt grad and former WIE Co-President, for sharing their insights and words of wisdom. What an inspiring event! We can’t wait to host more alumni events in the future.

This year marks the 13th annual Women in Science & Engineering (WISE) National Conference hosted by the University of Toronto! This year’s theme is “Reaching for the Stars” - join us on January 25-26, 2025 in downtown Toronto for an incredible lineup of speakers, workshops, panelists, competitions and company sponsors to fuel your professional and personal development!

The McMaster Women in Engineering Society is excited to announce that we will be subsidizing 55% of the ticket for 20 engineering students, making the ticket price $50. Mark your calendars, WIE has teamed up with CosMic Plants to celebrate World Kindness Day by handing out free orchids! Looking for a great holiday present for a friend or something to add to your room? WIE is hosting a pop-up sale for WIE themed calendars on November 7th from 4-6pm in Hatch 204A. All proceeds from our sale will be donated to YWCA Hamilton, a local charity that supports women and gender-diverse individuals in the community through housing services, skills development workshops, gender-based violence support, youth programs, and immigration services. The WIE themed calendars will be sold for $8 each until quantities last. Hope to see you there :)

Hey Women in Engineering Alumni & students! We are so excited to be hosting our first ever WIE Alumni Brunch on Thursday, November 28th from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Alumni Memorial Hall in the Great Room! Join us for a delicious brunch catered by the Buttery, a mini keynote speech from past WIE President Jessica Radko, Mech & Mgmt Grad and Regional Process Automation Specialist at ADM, the opportunity to make connections with current students and alumni, fun swag and more! Calling all First Years!! If you’re interested in representing your class, apply to be First Year Representative on the McMaster Women in Engineering Society Executive Team!

All women-identifying students in the Faculty of Engineering are automatically a part of WIE, however if you’d like to take on a leadership role in our society, don’t hesitate to apply. The First Year Reps will be responsible for planning and running events that benefit first year students, as well as other general executive team tasks.
